My 1st Mini-Scrapbook

August 29, 2008

Earlier this summer I finished a mini scrapbook for Dave which was supposed to be for Valentines, but ended up being for Father’s Day.  I have been scrapbooking for awhile now and really getting bored with just doing 12X12 albums which were mostly the same events over and over.  I needed something different, so got inspired (I’ve been reading a lot of scrapbooking magazines lately) to do a mini book.  It’s not tiny mini, but is 8X8.  I am so cheap I didn’t really want to go out and spend a lot of money on chipboard and stuff, and I couldn’t really find what I wanted anyway.  I ended up using the thin cardboard backing from my packs of 12X12 paper and cutting them down to size.  I used these for the front and back covers.

Here is the front.

Not a very original title, but it’ll do.  I but some buttons on the front and metal clips.  I punched holes in all the paper and used 2 rings to hold it together.  I didn’t want it to look feminine since it was for my hubby, so I tied the rings with twine, some brown and tan ribbon, and strips of denim from an old pair of jeans.  (Told you I was cheap!)

BYU-I Gardens

August 25, 2008

Aren’t they just such cute kids!!!

I took the kids up to the gardens at BYU-I to take their pictures this afternoon.  It was fun, but they were annoyed with the picture taking by the time we left.  That and, for some reason, we got attacked by hornets by one of the ponds and Sydnie and Hayley both got stung and were hurting when we left.  Stupid hornets!  Anyway… the flowers were beautiful as always and I wandered around wishing I could somehow make my yard look like their landscaping.  All I need is a lot of money and I’m sure I could do it! 🙂  Oh, well.  I’ll plod along doing a little bit at a time and someday when I’m like 50 or something it may look like something close.  Maybe I should just get started here at least – We haven’t done anything in the yard at all except mow the weeds!  It just seems overwhelming to even think about where to start with the yard.  I hope we can get something done this fall.  At least a place to have the veggie garden next spring, and some actual grass out front.

The girls went back to school today.  It’s the big sign that summer is coming to a close.  I have to admit I actually like that.  I love summer, but it gets so hectic and crazy.  I’ve often wondered what the heck someone meant when they made up the “lazy days of summer” phrase!

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year.  The real heat is gone, but it’s still nice enough to enjoy being outside.  The fall colors are awesome.  If any of you have seen my house it’s full of browns, orange, a little red, and sage green.  I am just a fall person.  Dave just gets depressed that summer is almost over, but I always look forward to the change of seasons.

The kids had a good 1st day at school and feel their teachers are going to be awesome.  I wish this excitement and ease in getting them up would last longer than a couple of days.  Pretty soon it will be dragging them out of bed and nagging about getting their homework done.  Sigh…I always liked school and even enjoyed getting my homework done.  I know I’m weird!

Weekend Camping Trip

August 18, 2008

Here are a few pics from this weekend’s camping trip.  We had a lot of fun and actually caught some fish for a change.  Well… some of us did anyway… catch fish I mean.  As usual with camping we were filthy when we got home.  Dillan and I were amazed at how yucky his bath water looked after he got out.  Eew!  It was nice to go and relax and do something fun before the kids go back to school on Wednesday.  Especially since they keep saying “we haven’t done anything all summer”.  I look at them like they’re crazy and wonder where all the time went since we don’t seem to have stopped for a breath all summer!

Learning to Ride

August 18, 2008

Dillan has learned to ride his bike this week – at age 4!  He has beat his sisters by 4 or 5 years!  I am so proud of him, especially because he did it without a whole lotta help from us.  He was just determined to ride his bike and so…. he did!  He even got his dad’s tools and took the training wheels off by himself.  He is just like that.  Once he makes his mind up about something it usually happens, and if it doesn’t, well, watch out.  I have to admire his perseverance even though sometimes it can try my patience.

Last Sunday we went searching for huckleberries.  Look at those little yummy little berries; so tart and sweet!  There is nothing to compare to that taste.  We ate all that we picked because dear hubby doesn’t have the patience to pick a gallon or two, so we left with me just knowing that most likely I wouldn’t get another opportunity this summer to get some.  I guess I’ll have to live with the closely guarded few I have left in the freezer.
