Should have published this post sooner. Wow I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since Memorial Day. Funny how that weekend was some of the best weather we’ve had so far this summer!

It was so nice to go camping Memorial Day weekend and just leave everything behind (especially the cell phones) and enjoy just being away. I didn’t even keep track of the time, except by the trusty old sun. We had yummy food as usual (what’s camping without great food, especially with my family). We had finger steaks and homemade fries one night, and some scones and Keith’s yummy cobbler. Nachos and snack stuff another. Breakfasts were HUGE every morning of course! The whole deal – eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, ham, bisuits, etc. We definately do more than just the usual hot dog on a stick!

We mostly lounged around the campfire, played horseshoes, and visited. We fished one afternoon until we got rained out, and Monday went for a 4-wheeler ride for a couple hours. It was beautiful out to Kilgore. Still early in the year though. The trees had just barely gotten leaves and not much grass or flowers were up. It was a little cold in the shade.

The kids had a great time. The girls played with Paige in the “Fort” they had actually started making in the same spot from last year. This year they added to it. They also had Dusty help them dig a big hole to play in… I don’t know why… they just wanted a big hole for some reason! We also bought a little BB gun which entertained Dillan for hours playing army and shooting at targets.

To bad we had to return to reality! Oh well, I guess it makes us appreciate the fun times all the more.

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2) The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was able to get hooked into this book better than the first. I felt it moved along faster and kept my attention better. I am really starting to love the depth of Sanderson’s characters and his insights on love and relationships. Strange for a fantasy book. I also love his unique and new use of “magic”. It’s been awesome to have something a little different than your standard fantasy! It’s also great to read something that really keeps you guessing about what will happen next. It isn’t predictable, but Sanderson makes it all fit together still. Can’t wait to finish #3.

Sydnie started TaVaci when she was four. I can’t believe 8 years have past and she has went from that silly little kid to this (still somewhat silly) young lady with a beautiful voice. She had a little solo part in one of the songs and she sounded so good, and of course we were so proud of her. I hope someday she gets over her shyness about sharing her talents. It’s funny that she will sing in TaVaci and stuff, but has a hard time sharing her singing outside of that.

Graduate Dill

Dillan graduated from preschool on May 21st. He is so excited to start kindergarten in the fall and ride the bus. I think he’s mostly excited about the bus. He is such a smart little guy! If I would make more time with him I think I could have him reading before he starts kindergarten. He loves books and can even pick out some simple words. Heck, he’s almost teaching himself! He really loved his preschool teacher, Mrs. Clark, and it was an added bonus that he got to go to preschool with his cousin Keifer. It was so funny that they could spend all day together at the babysitters and then still be excited to get to go to school with each other. Those two get along so well!
